Your drive over the Lesner Bridge just got prettier.
A new sculpture by artist Donald Lipski is being installed on the southern pedestrian overlook on the bridge as a welcome sign to the Lynnhaven Inlet. The installation began on Wednesday and
will finish up for a public dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 28.
Lipski’s piece, titled “The Canoes,” features 10, full-size aluminum canoes that are stamped and punched with lace patterns, according to the City of Virginia Beach’s website. The canoes are joined at the center in a sunburst shape on top of a large arch.
The dedication ceremony will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with parking being offered at the Lynnhaven Boat Ramp and Beach Facility.
The project is a collaboration between the Public Art Virginia Beach Foundation, the Virginia Beach Public Art Committee and the Bayfront Advisory Commission. The installation of the sculpture is not interfering with the bridge’s current construction project, according to the city.
