Norfolk Encourages Bike Riders to “Learn the Loop”

Grab your bicycle and some friends and check out Norfolk’s new bike loop this weekend.

The city is having a “Learn the Loop” event Saturday from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.. It’s a great chance to check out the 5 miles of bike lanes that make up the recently completed loop.

There is no start or end point Saturday; enter the lanes wherever you choose. Riders are just asked to go with the flow of traffic and obey all traffic signals and signs.

Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the bike lanes, sharrows and other new road markings. Riders can also visit any of these three pit stops for water, information or a guided tour:

  • Blair Middle School – 730 Spotswood Avenue
  • Newport Plaza – 600 W. 35th Street
  • Harrison Opera House – 160 W. Virginia Beach Blvd

The Norfolk Bike Loop is part of the city’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Strategic Plan. Go to this link on the city’s website for more information on the plan.
