ODU rally comes up short at NIT

Old Dominion’s second half rally was not enough as the Monarchs lost to Stanford 67-60 in the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament last night.

The Monarchs trailed by 15 before they even scored and were down as many as 21 points in the first half.

After awhile thing started to click, and ODU was able to climb all the way back to tie the game at 39 on a Ambrose Moseley 3-pointer with 16:28 remaining in the game.

“We were able to come up with a couple steals and convert points off turnovers, so that was good, kind of got our crowd into it and gave us a little bit of life,” coach Jeff Jones said.

But it wasn’t quite enough. Despite the rally, Stanford won.

“Ultimately, gosh, I’m so proud of these guys,” Jones said. “Been a terrific ride this year. … Absolutely can’t fault the effort at all. But ultimately, you’ve got to put the ball in the basket, and we didn’t do that well enough.”
