The Nauticus and Wild River Outfitters of Virginia Beach have changed the way you can go kayaking on the Elizabeth River. “Kayak at Nauticus” will now give you the opportunity to see the Norfolk Waterfront from a new perspective.
Tours start at the Half Moon Marina and you can now paddle around the USS Wisconsin. The program is geared towards locals, but everyone is invited to rent a kayak from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“It’s really fun to be able to go around the Wisconsin, it’s a really cool new angle that I’ve never been able to see like when you tour Nauticus you see the inside and the outside, but you never see the bottom of the ship, so going kayaking around it was really cool to see that angle,” says Catherine Townes, who was one of the first to experience the tour.
Rentals cost $20 per hour for a single kayak and $30 for a double kayak. Seven-year-olds can sail with an adult; children 13 years or older may sail alone.
