Police, Rotary Club Provide Bikes for Children

A joint effort involving the Newport News Police Department and the Oyster Point Rotary Club is making biking possible for children this summer.

Seven children received gently used bicycles Friday after the Rotary Club made arrangements to acquire them from Outer Banks, N.C. officials. The bikes, that were previously abandoned, were refurbished to more suitable riding conditions by the Newport News Fraternal Order of Police.

This afternoon officers from the NNPD Central Precinct presented bikes to seven children from the community. The children were chosen by their apartment complex manager. The children and police spent the afternoon together as an opportunity to positively interact with each other.
