Sandsculpting Competition Closes Early Due to Weather

The Neptune Festival’s International Sandsculpting Championship venue open this week for viewing was closed Wednesday morning, effective immediately.

Organizers said winds anticipated to be as strong as 50mph at the Oceanfront, with even stronger gusts, create dangerous conditions.

Even though the adverse weather is not expected to begin until Thursday, the crew needs time to safely disassemble the 300-foot tent that houses the sculptures.

If you didn’t get to see the incredible sand sculptures in person, you’re not completely out of luck. Check out our slideshow of some of this year’s masterpieces.
