Virginia Beach resident and retired postal employee Alfred Cross won the $1 million top prize from the Virginia Lottery’s 20x the Money scratcher ticket!

The Virginia Lottery says he purchased the ticket from the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Holland Road. The store will get a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

When Cross looked at the freshly scratched ticket, he said “Wait, that can’t be right!”

The chances of winning the $1 million top prize in the game are 1 in 1,224,000 and the chances of winning any prize for this particular game are 1 in 3.51. Cross was the first person to claim the top prize, which means there are three more unclaimed, according to the Virginia Lottery.

Cross had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over a span of 30 years or a one-time cash option of $610,874 before taxes. The Virginia Lottery says he chose the cash option.
