The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Mounted Patrol welcomed a new member to their family on June 29!
Their 13-year-old Clydesdale named Dutchess gave birth to Lady Justice, according to a post on the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Facebook.
Dutchess has been with the VBPD Mounted Patrol since last October thanks to a donation made to the Friends of the Virginia Beach Police Mounted Patrol group. Her human partner is Officer J. Jordan.
The post says the foal came by surprise and that even the vet who had just given Dutchess a checkup was shocked to find out she was pregnant.
Staff at their barn saw Dutchess was in labor early that morning and they were able to help her have a healthy delivery.
The Mounted Patrol facility will be temporarily closed to the public, to give the new mom and baby quiet time, as well as keep a germ-free environment.
