Another year, another milestone for two of our local Pop Warner teams. The junior Pee Wee Virginia Beach Mustangs, a group of 8 to 11 year olds, will take on the Steelers from Arizona in the Pop Warner Super Bowl at Disney World.
The Mustangs are looking to repeat as national champions.
15 years ago Virginia Beach won the national title with former Landstown and NFL star Percy Harvin. Bubba Jenkins and Tajh Boyd also won a national title with the team in 2012.
Coach Bruce Pearl’s father Sid started coaching the local kids back in 1965; Bruce took over in 2007 and has since been coaching. The Division 1 junior varsity Churchland Tigers were knocked out in the semi-finals by a team from North Philly.
The game will be broadcast live Saturday on ESPN U beginning at Noon.
