Kris Lawrence is a runner, a Navy wife, a mom of three and now a runner with a shot at the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials. The 37-year-old lives in Virginia Beach and has dreamed of this accomplishment her entire professional running career.
Sunday she ran the California International Marathon in Sacramento and crossed the finish line in 2:42:42, her personal best. For her, she says on her blog., it’s a dream come true.
Lawrence has faced many setbacks in the last couple years, including an injury that kept her from training for 45 days, according to her blog. But she was determined to use that setback as a fresh start.
“People say you put in the work and you get the results you deserve but marathoners know that’s not always the case. Life isn’t fair. The marathon is not fair either,” said Lawrence on her blog, “Things happen that are out of your control. Even the things you can control can spiral out of grasp before you even knew the hit was coming.”
She says there was as much mental preparation leading up to race day as there was physical. Lawrence also credits good weather, the time change on the west coasts and nutrition to her accomplishment.
