Your Children’s Festival, Crawlin’ Crab Hampton Roads Weekend

Fall is here and the weather is starting to cool down. This time of the year provides a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

This weekend the 28th annual Virginia Children’s Festival will take place at Town Point Park. Children will be able to take park in interactive and creative activities. Also you can meet your favorite WAVY-TV 10 personalities.

Also for the book lovers out there, the Williamsburg Book Festival will take place and the MUSE Writing Center is celebrating 10 years at the Slover Library.

Friday – Sunday | Crawlin’ Crab Weekend | Downtown Hampton
The return of the Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Kilometer (1K), and Craft Brew Fest, presented by Bon Secours In Motion. The J & A Racing event is known to draw over 5,000 walkers and runners, and their families.

Saturday & Sunday | 43rd annual Fall Festival of Folklife | Newport News Park
The festival, which attracts 70,000 visitors each year, will feature over 200 exhibitors showcasing traditional crafts, heritage trade demonstrations, entertainment, children’s activities, and food.

Friday & Saturday | Chowan County Regional Fair | American Legion Fairgrounds
This 70th annual event features comedy hypnosis shows, racing pigs, livestock shows, demonstrations, thousands of community exhibits, a train display, Farmer for a Day program, wood-carver, contests, pageants, favorite fair food, and Dreamland Amusements midway games and rides for all ages.

Friday – Sunday | 43rd annual Neptune Festival | Oceanfront from 2nd Street to 36th Street

Join the Norfolk Society for Cemetery Conservation for a twilight walking tour of historic Elmwood Cemetery. Led by Joshua Weinstein, the tour focuses on Victorian-era funerary art, mourning rituals and burial practices.

12 p.m. | Virginia Nigerian Festival | Military Circle Mall
Celebrate with Chukwuma Awanaa and the Hampton Roads Nigerian community as they celebrate Nigerian Independence Day in Virginia. Enjoy a trip to Nigeria through foods, music, clothing and celebration.

6 p.m. | The Muse 10th Anniversary Book Lovers Bash | Slover Library
To celebrate of a decade of local creativity, the Muse Writers Center will present The Book Lovers Bash at the Slover Library in downtown Norfolk featuring live music by Three-Quarter Time, a DJ, desserts, literary themed cocktails, a silent auction and book-themed activities.

Join us on the lawn at Chuckatuck Library to explore the night sky! The Moon will be located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects, such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.

A walk to raise funds and awareness for brain tumors. Funds raised will support research and advocacy.

We will be having a BBQ lunch to help us kick off our 2016 Toys For Tots campaign. All money raised from ticket sales will go to Toys For Tots. The Williamsburg Book Festival welcomes New York Times bestselling author Rita Mae Brown to the October 1 festival.
