The great thing about the Hampton Roads music scene is that it you never know what new band or sound will grab a hold of you next. Whether it’s a new folk artist or a new hip hop beat, you just don’t know what’s going to hook you and pull you in. A new song from a new band just did that to me recently and I think it will do the same for you – let me introduce you to the magic of Wyteshayds.
Formed about a year ago in Norfolk, Wyteshayds is the dream child from a trio of seasoned musicians: drummer Josh Whittle of Over The Ocean fame, guitarist/vocalist Brett Helke, most recently of Black Blinds, and producer and musician extraordinaire Jacki Paolella from DJP and MrT. A variety of different influences and styles encompasses the sound of Wyteshayds: new age with a little rock and soul make the perfect recipe for this group.
They have just wrapped up recording their debut album and have been receiving a lot of buzz from national publications and record labels especially after their fantastic set at this year’s LAVA Festival. Instead of relying on a label to cover the costs of finishing the record (thus losing ownership of their music), they have started an Indiegogo account to enlist your help in finishing the record and to help cover touring costs. To give you a taste of what’s to come, they have released their debut single “Slow Climb”. A great mid-’80s new age track that will certainly get stuck in your head.
