Food trucks have been popping up across the country over the last few years, encouraged by adventurous eaters and folks lining up for a little somethin’ special on their hot dog.
In cities across the United States, these eye-catching trucks have been luring in eager eaters with names like Curry Up Now and The Frying Dutchmen. Good news for Hampton Roads residents: You don’t have to go far to find an exciting meal on wheels!
With stomachs growling, here’s our list of five local food trucks we want to try:
According to Panavoir’s website, this food truck is “a global street food inspired food truck.” The truck’s Twitter feed boasts a wide array of tastes, from Southwest fare and vegetarian options to Indian flavors (Chana Masala!) and Italian rice bowls. You’ll find Panavoir in the Downtown Norfolk area, track their next stop on their Facebook page.
Can’t decide if you want pizza or a hot dog for lunch? Why compromise? The Granby Street Hot Dog truck combines two lunchtime staples with its Pizza Dog, covering your hot dog in marinara sauce and adding all the right fixings. Believe it or not, there’s even a veggie dog option for vegetarians! Track down Granby Street Hot Dogs near MacArthur Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day in May.
Send your sweet tooth on a sugar rush when you pay a visit to the Twisted Sisters Cupcake truck! Twisted Sisters Cupcakes has two store-front locations, but they are bringing sweet treats to Hampton Roads on wheels. There are plenty of cupcake flavor combinations to choose from. Mexican street food finds a home in Hampton Roads with the Stuft food truck. According to its website, the food truck is focusing on *fresh* flavors with Mexican flair. Look for Stuft’s Chori-Pollo Torta, a baked torta roll packed with beans, chicken, chorizo and homemade queso. Stuft doesn’t stop there! You’ll also find Jamaican flavors and even Buffalo chicken. Check it out mostly in the Hampton and Newport News areas – Stuft’s Twitter page will keep you up to speed!
The Lucky Peach brings inventive culinary creations to the local food truck scene, offering unique options like Apple Bottom Slaw, Chicken and Waffle Sliders or the Pimp Shrimp Wrap.
