The spirit of Norfolk is swimming into Virginia Beach with the Mermaid Winery. Founded in 2012 in the Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk, the Commonwealth’s first urban winery will be joining the Virginia Beach community at 4401 Shore Drive near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
“We appreciate the City of Virginia Beach’s investment in our business,” Mermaid Winery owner, Jennifer Eichert said. “And we’re excited about the opportunity to share our unique wine experience with the Virginia Beach community.”
Mermaid Winery is a small, woman-owned business that will bring approximately twenty-five jobs to the City of Virginia Beach.
The new 8,084 square-foot experience is expecting to open its doors to wine lovers by the end of this year. The facility will include a bar where the wine-making process can be viewed, a restaurant with inside and outside dining areas and an event room. With it will come wine oriented activities, such as movie nights and games geared towards the adult community.
In addition to Mermaid Winery’s signature line, they offer 750 different wines from around the world, so there is something to please any palate.
“Mermaid Winery has achieved great success with their unique approach to crafting wines in this region, and we are proud they have chosen to expand their operations into Virginia Beach,” said Virginia Beach Economic Development Director, Warren D. Harris. “This investment in our city further strengthens the thriving small business community we have here.”
