Runners- Let’s Race This Weekend!

Time to Go “On The Run!”  The Latest Running News and Notes in Hampton Roads from your Running Reporter, Jon “Flex”Leiding

Well, another weekend goes by and YES! There are still more races going on in Hampton Roads. How does that happen?

Either way, it’s great to chat about great races from this past week, like the Hampton Bay Days 10K run. Ryan Carroll was stellar, crushing the streets of Hampton in 33:49.  Melinda Cornwell took the Women’s Title, with a strong 44:57.  Big Shout Out Time! Susan Hagel, great runner and friend “On the Run”, was the Second Female, with a solid 48:28.  Great Job to All!

In Newport News, the ECPI 8K was rockin’, as Corbin Armstrong was the Overall Winner with an amazing time of 33:10. The Ladies were led by Shelia Scotti, who blazed the almost five mile course in 38:19.

Back at the Oceanfront, the second annual Summer Sizzler 5K went off well and set a perfect sunset to the summer fun at the beach.  Curt Liner was the overall champ with a time of 19:37.  Joseph McGraw was just four seconds behind in 19:41.  Lindsey Lizotte  took the Ladies title within awesome time of 22:12.  Big congrats to you all.

This weekend is light on the schedule but long in distance. The Mulberry Island Half Marathon races away Saturday at Fort Eustis. That means 13.1 miles of fun for many of my good friends will be taking on the course. Go get em!
Sunday in Virginia Beach,  the Alanton 5K & 1 mile run will get going again. Some of my young racing friends will definitely be putting some speedy times in the 1 mile event. It’s always good to see our youth so active and so fast!  Check out tidewaterstriders.com for more.
