The Weekend Waits- “On the Run!”

The Latest News and Notes in Hampton Roads Running from Running Reporter, Jon”Flex’ Leiding

You asked for it, so we’re bringing it- MORE VIDEO!  Here’s this week’s report and a preview of some great races this weekend in Hampton Roads!  Of course, I’m a bit sweaty..I just came back from a great run at Mount Trashmore with some amazing friends!

This week, Hampton Roads lost a local running legend in Dr. Mel Williams.  A member of the Tidewater Striders and Marine Corps Marathon Hall of Fame, he was always a competitor at the top of any local race.  He was a friend to any runner and even as accomplished as he was, he was happy to coach anyone needing advice.  To me, he was part of the Running Boom of the 70’s and made running races in this area important. In 2010, I interviewed him.  It’s an honor to share it here, “On The Run!”

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.  Before races were everywhere and every weekend,  he was one of the reasons racing and running grew so popular here.  The running community in this area lost a great friend.
