Military Minute: U.S. Navy Congratulates Chief Petty Officer Ashley Geary

The U.S. Navy has just announced this year’s promotions to Chief Petty Officer, and the sailors of the year aboard the Amphimious Assault Ship USS WASP was among them.

Ashley Geary is an aviation boatswain’s mate and leading petty officer aboard WASP, which is home ported right here in town at Naval Sation Norfolk.

Geary is a native of Sacramento, California but has spent her last three assignments here in Hampton Roads.

She, along with all the other Chief Petty Officer selectees, is now taking part in a tradition that dates back to 1893 where the Chief’s community trains, tests and accepts the new chiefs into their ranks as the senior enlisted sailors who make the navy run on a daily basis.

Advancing to Chief Petty Officer is one of the highest regarded moments in a sailor’s career and chief’s are widely respected by junior sailors and officers as technical experts in their career fields and deckplate leaders aboard the Navy’s ships.

Congratulations to Chief Select Geary and to all those in our viewing area who were selected!
