Coming out of Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Trey Freeman only had one college scholarship offer. He accepted a full ride to Campbell University in little Buies Creek, North Carolina.
In his short time playing for Gaylord the Camel, Freeman tore up The Big South Conference scoring in double figures 26 times. Freeman was named Big South freshman of the year but something was terribly wrong at home. His mother was sick and he wanted to be closer to her.
After two seasons, Freeman left Campbell and transferred to Old Dominion University. After sitting out last season, his time is now for the Monarchs and ODU is so much better for it.
With the regular season coming to a close, Freeman has become the teams go to guy.
Last week he was named Conference USA Player of the Week. Freeman scored 27 points to lead the Monarchs in a 72-53 wire-to-wire win over first place Louisiana Tech. It was Freeman’s eighth game with 20 or more points this season. Freeman tossed in a team-high 18 points in Thursday’s win over Southern Miss.
The Monarchs improved to 21-6 following Thursday’s win at a Rice. Once again, Freeman led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
This was an easy choice making Trey Freeman the HR Sports Star of the Week.
